Antojitos Salvadorenos offers an authentic taste of El Salvador right in the heart of Houston at 1011 Telephone Rd. This beloved Salvadoran restaurant invites guests to indulge in a flavorful journey defined by rich traditions and vibrant, comforting dishes that awaken the senses. From the moment you step inside, the warm and attentive service sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience that feels like a true celebration of Salvadoran heritage.
At the center of the menu, the expertly crafted pupusas—a signature Salvadoran specialty—stand out as a must-try. These handmade corn tortillas, stuffed with savory fillings such as cheese, beans, and chicharrón, emerge hot off the griddle, perfectly crispy on the outside while tender and gooey within. The accompanying curtido—a tangy fermented cabbage slaw—adds the perfect balance of zest and crunch, further elevating each bite.
Beyond the classic pupusas, the menu generously offers an array of dishes designed to satisfy every craving. Seafood lovers will be drawn to the mariscada, a robust medley of shrimp, fish, and other ocean delights simmered in rich, flavorful broth. For those seeking comforting heartiness, the mojarra frita (fried whole fish) and hearty soups such as sopa de mondongo or sopa de patas offer soulful warmth. Flavorful appetizers like crispy chicken flautas and the enticing quesadilla stuffed with your choice of beef fajita or juicy chicken breast deliver a perfect crispy and savory start.
One can’t overlook the vibrant sides and beverages that round out the meal beautifully—from sweet plantains and fried yuca salad to refreshing limonata and the ever-popular Michelada or local cerveza. Patrons rave about indulgent desserts such as plátanos y nuegados en miel and the decadent tamal de elote, which bring a subtle sweetness that lingers delightfully after the savory feast.
The atmosphere at Antojitos Salvadorenos is casual yet inviting, with many guests, like Carolina Lobo, finding a cozy spot at the bar where the staff remembers regulars by name and anticipates their favorites. The genuine hospitality shines in each interaction, creating a welcoming vibe many describe as “home away from home.” Whether you’re lingering over a robust coffee or toasting with a glass of sangria, the restaurant cultivates an easygoing and joyful dining environment that encourages you to relax and savor every bite.
Regulars like Charlene Realegeno highlight not only the consistent quality but also the sense of community, sharing how the staff’s warm welcome makes even late-night visits feel special. Customer favorites extend beyond the menu staples to include the fresh pan con pollo sandwich, flavorful beef fajitas, and delightful fruit juices like the Marañon, which guests eagerly take home.

I always sit at the bar when I come here. The staff was very nice and attentive. I order the exact same thing every time I came and always leave immensely satisfied. The pupusas, the plantains, and the tamal de elote are my favorite. Keep in mind that they do up charge for credit card transactions so cash is king.
We always feel welcomed there and they remember us when we come in. It’s our go to favorite spot for pupusas but their seafood is amazing too! Oh and their Marañon juice is so so good, we order extra cups to go! Thank you for always welcoming us even when y’all about to close. You guys are the best!!
The food here is delicious! The mariscada and flautas are my favorite. They always make sure your cup of coffee is full. The empanadas were a great way to end our lunch.
Good Salvadorian food and drinks. Can recommend their chicken sandwich (pan con pollo) and their salpicón. Great customer service
Great little salvodran food place. Great pupusas. I tried the tamale, which was moist and delicious. The dessert plantain empanada with thick cream filling was so good.
